Copyediting
With a completed draft, a copyedit can include all or some of the following, depending upon how clean the draft is:
- smooth transitions or help restructure sentences to improve readability
- suggest additions and deletions at the sentence and paragraph level
- query any conflicting statements, discrepancies, or places where the text may be unclear or confusing
- correct faulty spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- ensure consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization; and parallelism of headings
- correct incorrect word usage
- eliminate wordiness, triteness, or redundancies
- note if permissions are needed
- check and verify cross-references
- prepare a style sheet listing particular spellings, or stylistic preferences
- code a manuscript for typesetting/design
